Rest and Refit. by kaasjager
Rest and Refit.
(January 2222, EAN PR dept.)
With the Phoenix class facing long delays in both building and commissioning, the EAN decided to upgrade the Ajax class with the lessons learned from the last Separatists war.
The Ajax class it's main battery proved ineffective, too slow to pose a threat to smaller ships and not powerful enough to damage capital ships. The decision was made to rip out all the main turrets and replace them with missiles batteries, which proved more successful in taking out capital ships. This also freed up space for 2 more landing docks. The Ajax secondary battery which was mainly for close in defence was upgraded with modern dual role cannons, which can do the close in defence and also are fast and powerful enough to destroy ships like corvettes, frigates and destroyers.
Other changes were the sensors, which were lifted from the Phoenix class (scuttlebut says this is the only system on the Phoenix that works as advertised) replaced the ageing sensors on the Ajax.
Changes to the reactor cores and a general upgrade to all ship systems make sure that this class is competitive again for at least the coming decade.

EAS-AJAX2 by kaasjager
EAS-AJAX2
(October 2219, EAN PR dept.)
EAS-AJAX, the lead ship of the Ajax class cruisers is seen here on patrol along the border with Separatist space.
As an old war horse, the Ajax class is still the mainstay of the long range patrol fleet, being replaced now with the newer Phoenix class. While it is a slightly dated design, it still did very well in the separatist war of 2214-2216. The EAS-Ajax was there for all major battles, more than once being damaged so heavy it had to drop out of line for repairs, you can still see the patch repairs on her hull. But the Ajax dished out harder than it took, helping with bringing down a battleship, scoring kills on 3 Separatist cruisers, and numerous smaller craft during the war.
The war ended with both parties signing an armistice on the independent colony of Centuari Prime. But the EAN remains vigilant for any border violations.
